Ducks Unlimited will host three two-day retriever training seminars in New England this summer. The clinics, which are sponsored by Tri-Tronics, will feature professional trainer on Team Tri-Tronics, Alec Sparks of Snowbound Kennels in Addison, Vermont. Each of the three clinics will consist of a one-day retriever training seminar and a one-day hands-on training clinic during which you will work with your dog. Participants may choose to attend either the seminar or the clinic, or both sessions.
The clinics will be held on July 24-25 at Snowbound Kennels in Addison, Vermont; August 7-8 at Addieville East Farms in Mapleville, Rhode Island; and August 28-29 at Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area in Simsbury, Connecticut. Each participant will get a free chance to win an electronic training collar donated by Tri-Tronics.
Retriever training seminars will be held on Saturdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm, and will demonstrate the training steps required to produce a fully trained retriever. Topics to be covered include basic obedience through force fetch, land and water pattern work to establish a foundation for handling and blind retrieves, and marking concepts. The seminar will be conducted using demonstration dogs, so you need not have a dog of your own to participate. Cost to attend the seminar is $60 per person, which includes lunch and an annual membership to Ducks Unlimited
Hands-on training clinics will be held on Sundays from 8:30am to 5:00pm, and are open to owners of retrievers 6 months of age or older, with any level of training and/or experience. An overview of training concepts will be presented, followed by individual instruction with your dog. Attendance at each hands-on clinic is limited to 12 dogs to ensure personal attention to you and your dog. Cost to attend the hands-on clinic is $125 per dog, and includes lunch and an annual membership to Ducks Unlimited. Both sessions can be attended for a cost of $150.
Seminar are not limited to owners of retrieving breeds only, and anyone who has, or is thinking of acquiring, a dog they wish to train to retrieve is invited to attend.
