Pheasant Release Sites
THE WESTERN WASHINGTON PHEASANT PROGRAM - The 16th Western Washington Pheasant Release Program hunting season opened on September 21 and runs through November 31. The program boasts some 32 hunting sites. The sites are located throughout western Washington from Clallam county south to Pacific county. Each of the release sites is stocked with pheasants every weekend. The number of birds released on any give site is driven by the number of hunters routinely hunting the site. The most mature and best managed pheasant hunting is on Fort Lewis in Pierce county. Volunteers from the Northwest Adventure Center work to ensure that the 8 active hunting sites on the post are stocked twice a day. The hunting on the post is divided into morning (8 -12) and afternoon (1 -4) hunts. Birds are stocked for both hunting periods every weekend. Hunters must be registered to hunt on Fort Lewis and reserve a hunting slot through the Northwest Adventure Center. The total number of hunters allowed on any give release site is computed based on the size of the hunting area. For more information on hunting on Fort Lewis, contact the Northwest Adventure Center (253) 967-8260.
